Error code: 0xc0000225
The following entry is intended to provide a detailed description of how to solve the problem that prevents the computer from starting. The error code: 0xc0000225 indicates that the operating system can not be loaded due to the lack of the required file. The situation is so unpleasant that it completely prevents the system from loading. Repeating the missing file also does not solve the problem. The F8 button as well as the re-attempts do not bring results.
The problem most often arises when replacing a disk and moving the system using image or copying sector by sector. Such operations are performed when the disk becomes partially damaged or when the system is moved from the HDD to the SSD. Sometimes this also happens during normal computer operation, after restarting it.
The way to deal with the problem is below. The description applies to Windows 8, but it can also help other systems. Windows 7 users can additionally use the automatic system repair.

Step 1: Find the Windows installation disc
The Windows installer is necessary to run this procedure, therefore you need a motherboard or a bootable USB flash drive. After inserting a disc or pendrive, set it as the first Boot option on your computer. Just when the error is displayed, press ESC to go to the BIOS / UEFI settings or select the appropriate button at computer startup (depending on the model). In the BOOT tab, set the drive to the system. Then save the settings and exit.
Step 2: Run the computer repair option
The Windows Installer will start up when the computer starts. Choose the language and the “Next” button.
After loading the files, the option to install and repair the current system will appear. Select the Repair computer option.
In Windows 8.1, select:
- Solve problems
- Advanced options
- Command line
Step 3: Enter commands on the command line
In the command line that is running, enter a sequence of commands that will repair the damaged system:
- Diskpart – disk management tool;
- List volume – list of disks / partitions;
- Select volume = 2 – select the volume named SYSTEM – small, several hundred MB, in example No. 2;
- assign letter = Z – assigning any free letter to the selected disk;
- exit
- bcdboot C:\windows /s Z: /f UEFI (or “bcdboot C:\windows /s Z: /f ALL” or “bcdboot C:\windows /s Z:” for BIOS) – assignment of the boot file. Select the system volume, named OS, and the previously assigned letter Z.
After the presented sequence of operations, the system will be repaired and reboot will allow normal operation in the system.
Step 4: Remove the additional operating system
The system is already working, but an additional system to choose from when the computer started.
This can be cumbersome, therefore the message will be deleted. To do this, select:

- Card: Advanced
- Area: Startup and recovery and button: Settings
In the window with settings, select the Default operating system and deactivate the Display time of the operating system list.
